What People Say
Most Liked
The standout feature of Submarine Port is undoubtedly its extensive sandwich selection, with favorites like the corned beef and pastrami taking center stage. Customers rave about the quality of the ingredients and the traditional deli-style preparation, which brings a nostalgic touch to each bite. The garlic fries, seasoned just right, are also a must-try, offering a delightful crunch and flavor that keeps patrons coming back for more. The laid-back atmosphere, paired with a friendly staff ready to offer personalized suggestions, creates a welcoming environment for both newcomers and regulars. Additionally, the creative menu caters to health-conscious diners without sacrificing taste, ensuring there's something for everyone.
Most Disliked
Despite its many strengths, Submarine Port does face a few critiques from customers. Some diners note that during peak hours, especially on Friday evenings, the wait time can stretch due to the restaurant's popularity. This can be a hassle, particularly if you're in a hurry but it's often worth the wait for the delicious food. Additionally, while seating is available, the cozy interior can feel cramped when the crowd swells, leaving little room to breathe. A few customers wish for more elaborate dessert offerings, feeling the current selections do not fully match the savory delights the restaurant is known for. Overall, these minor issues do not overshadow the positive dining experience most enjoy.

Super cute sandwich shop located on busy 162nd Street in South Holland. I picked up sandwiches for a big group and everyone enjoyed their sandwich. The corn beef was especially delicious. I also enjoyed the salad- a tuna salad. Super friendly staff. I will definitely go back if I am in the area.

Tainted love is playing as I write this and somehow it's perfect. My love of a good hoagie will take me one day. And this is a good hoagie. First of all, the meat. Traditional deli style prep, but this isn't your local Subway. The variety of meat is solid and their pastrami game is on point. Getting it heated up melted the Swiss just right. Hoagie bun is just tough enough to remind me of the grinders of my youth at old snack shops. Second the fries. Shoe string, perfectly cooked. Garlic is dusted with a Garlic salt with just a bit of a kick. Messy but good. However this is a TABLE order. It's a large order solo. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Ask if you have questions. The seating is comfortable for lunch and the decor is late 70s down to the stained mini chandeliers. The music is pure new wave 80s pop, so think Boy George and Duran Duran at inoffensive levels. Very clean. Price point is $15-20 a head. Worth the price in my view. Mark this local treasure in your rolodex if you haven't already.
